Jazz in the Uk/ Jazz in Sussex / Jazz in Kent / Jazz in London /Jazz In Scotland

Without doubt, one of the most fresh and original voices operating on the contemporary jazz scene today. The Blue Cafe Jazz is a unique and enchanting blend  of Scottish folk, Polish melodies and tin pan alley standards and haunting originals. Featuring the captivating vocals and stunning  harp of Magdalena, each performance takes the audience on a dramatic and spiritual journey from the Highlands of Scotland to the shores of the Baltic. Accompanying her are three of the best improvising musicians in the UK, Terry Seabrook on piano, Steve Thompson on double bass and Alex Eberhard on drums, each capable of holding an audience spellbound. At the centre of the band are the bewithing vocals of Magdalena Reising that evoke Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald but in the end are as individual , fresh and original as the band accompanying her. The Blue Cafe Jazz takes jazz and jazz performance to a new spectacular level. Not to be missed.

ED2011 Music Review: Blue Cafe Jazz (Magdalena Reising)

Julie London meets Sinead O’Connor in Magdalena Reising. Somewhere between the wistful old-school glamour of her silky voice, floor-length sparkly white gown and the traditional Scottish and Polish folk songs she integrates seamlessly with her original compositions, Magdalena has found a sound that is both timeless and magical. Everyone was silently captivated from start to end. With her harp, named (she told us) Queen Gabriella, Graham Robb on double bass and Louise Durra on piano, the dreamlike quality of her voice echoed with skill and flair, and the chemistry between the three performers, as well as her convivial anecdotes, created a tingling intimacy with the audience that made them feel like old friends. I bought the CD.
